Isobel Gardner was born in Arbroath, Angus. She lived in Edinburgh for many years where she regularly exhibited her work.

Isobel studied drama at R.S.A.M.D and regularly worked in film and theatre and, most particularly, T.V and radio. Her skills are wide ranging encompassing news reading, programme presentation and script writing.

She moved to Orkney in 1986 where she works as a full-time professional artist and illustrator. Her work is regularly on show at Orkney Gallery, Kirwall and the Waterfront Gallery, Stromness. It is also in private collections in this country, the USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Noteable collectors include Lord Mackay of Clashfern, the Rt. Hon. Jim Wallace MP, Elizabeth, Countess of Temple and Stowe and Paul Young.

Isobel Gardner regularly contributes to Pier Arts Centre group shows and has exhibited with the Scottish Society of Women Artists and the renowned Atlantic Gallery in Washington D.C. Her career has included several book illustrations, both technical and inspirational.
