Lynn Hanley was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Following a Foundation Course at the College of Arts and Technology in Newcastle (1981-1982), she went to study printed Textile Design (BA Hons) at Manchester Polytechnic (1982-1985). Since moving to Edinburgh in 1986, Lynn has exhibited in several galleries in Scotland including: Hanover Fine Arts, Edinburgh, Gallery 41, Edinburgh, The Green Gallery, Aberfoyle. The Peter Potter Gallery, Haddington, The Judith Glue Gallery, Edinburgh.

Lynn's cityscapes of Edinburgh show the influence of her textile background and her love of the architecture. The layering effect of the Old Town and the vibrant life of the city during the Festival being the main inspiration for her paintings. Lynn has undertaken commissioned work for house portraits, specific Edinburgh scenes and also produces prints and postcards from her original paintings. She is currently working towards a solo exhibition at the Hanover Fine Art Gallery and has been commissioned by Scotland's Lighthouse Musseum to produce a set of paintings and prints of lighthouses throughout Scotland.
