Anne Skinner

Originals

Anne Skinner currently works as a Fine Artist and Portrait Photographer, based in Edinburgh. Anne began her artistic career with an Honours Degree in Painting from the Edinburgh College of Art, Heriot-Watt University in 1992. She went on to gain a Master’s Degree in European Fine Art from Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton in 1993. Her studies entailed periods of work in Salamanca and Barcelona.

A love of the Scottish coastline has led Anne to concentrate on native seascapes during the past few years; focusing on the nearby coast line of East Lothian and the Isles of Barra and Harris.
The Harris works show the ethereal quality of the Island; with saturated colours and a cool, almost dazzling brightness.

Anne visits and immerses herself in the landscapes, then works in her studio, building the paintings in carefully observed layers. This method takes time and consideration, allowing Anne to portray the sublime beauty at the heart of her coastlines. There is contrast and unease - where sky meets land, light meets dark, the sun is overcast by clouds and shadow. The depth and distance achieved by Anne in her compositions show the elusive quality of the coastlines, demonstrating that beauty is often out of reach and unattainable.
