Iona Leishman

Originals

My experience as Historic Environment Scotland’s first artist in residence at Stirling Castle proved a crucial time in my development as a professional artist. Here, I painted the strong energies of this ancient place, producing vividly-imagined historic work. In subsequent years I was invited back by HES to exhibit commemorative work marking the Battles of Flodden and Bannockburn and the life of Marie de Guise, mother of Mary, Queen of Scots.

I have a working studio in close to the Smith Art Gallery and Museum in Stirling where I have lived for many years. Throughout my life I have learned from many other wonderful makers of art and have honed my own expression to include agitated, textured surface from which the images can emerge in inventive colour and media.
