In 1997, I took early retirement from teaching Maths. I then went to Dundee College where I gained a Certificate in Fine Art in 2000. I continued there for a further 4 years under the tutelage of Jean Martin RSW and Angus McEwan RSW. Angus especially has had a great influence on my painting style and techniques. A group of former students formed Art 309, which exhibits annually at the Botanic Gardens, Dundee, and I have successfully exhibited on several occasions at the Jerdan Gallery, Crail.
